Description
Street Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring a timber-framed structure with 20th-century rendering in panels and 20th-century plain tiles. The building has a basic three-cell plan, with the south end remodeled in poorer timberwork during the 18th century. The north end showcases a complex gable made of small red Tudor bricks, which includes a chimney stack. This stack has high moulded brick copings on the roof slopes, stepped sides, and tumbled brickwork, projecting slightly. It features four attached hexagonal shafts on a large rectangular base, with diaper patterns in blue headers and five small circular openings on the back. The stack contains three hearths, including one in the attic, and there is also an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft.
The south end displays a mid-19th century red brick gable in a Victorian Romanesque style, similar to the estate cottages at Troston, built under the direction of Robert Lofft of Troston Hall, who was the lord of the manor at Stanton and owner of this farmhouse. The gable has moulded copings with corbelling at the eaves and crowstepping decoration. There are three paired casement windows with heavy rounded rusticated surrounds. Inside, the room at the north end features a fireplace with a moulded brick surround. The ceiling of the central room was removed during a mid-20th century restoration to create a lofty hall with a stair and gallery.
