Description

Tradescant Cottage at Courtfield is a house that dates back to the mid-17th century and has been divided into two separate units. It features one-and-a-half storeys and follows a two-cell lobby-entrance plan, with a third unit added around 1800 at the west end. The exterior is timber-framed and plastered in black and white panelling to mimic traditional framing, topped with a pantiled roof. There is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft. The ground storey has various windows, and there are three steeply pitched gabled dormers. At the rear, there is a one-and-a-half storey 19th-century lean-to extension made of red brick behind Courtfield and rendered behind Tradescant Cottage. Inside, only the plain main beams, posts, and wall plates are visible.
