Description

TL 9578-9678 CONEY WESTON THE STREET

2/24 Hall Farmhouse and Dovecot -

GV II

Farmhouse. Early C17. One-and-a-half storeys; L-shaped form. Timber-framed and rendered with thatched roofs. A small lean-to at the south end with pantiles. An internal chimney-stack with 3 attached hexagonal shafts on a square base. 3-light small-paned casement windows, some early C20; one eyebrow dormer. Entry now in the angle of the 2 ranges, but originally the main range had a lobby-entrance form: the doorway on the north side leading into the lobby was blocked up some years ago; the stair still winds up beside the chimney-stack. Some framing exposed inside: ovolo-moulded main beam in one ground-storey room; scroll stops with jewel and groove. There is evidence of extension to the frame in the room to the east of the stack. Some of the timber is coppice elm. Side purlin roofs. Linked to the south-east corner of the house by a short length of rubble flint wall is a small timber-framed and rendered former dovecot with hipped plaintiled roof, now without original fittings.
