Description

Hall Farmhouse and Dovecot is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It has one-and-a-half storeys and an L-shaped form, constructed from timber framing and rendered, topped with thatched roofs. At the south end, there is a small lean-to with pantiles. The building features an internal chimney stack with three attached hexagonal shafts on a square base. The windows are small-paned casements, three lights wide, with some dating from the early 20th century, and there is one eyebrow dormer.

The current entrance is located in the angle of the two ranges, but originally the main range had a lobby-entrance form; the doorway on the north side leading into the lobby has been blocked up in recent years. The staircase still winds up beside the chimney stack. Inside, some timber framing is exposed, including an ovolo-moulded main beam in one ground-storey room, and scroll stops with jewel and groove. There is evidence of an extension to the frame in the room to the east of the stack, with some timber made from coppice elm. The roof features side purlins.

Connected to the southeast corner of the house by a short section of rubble flint wall is a small timber-framed and rendered former dovecot, which has a hipped plaintiled roof but is now without its original fittings.
