Description
Nos 7 and 8 Market Hill are a pair of mid 19th century grey gault brick houses and shops, built around 1860 to 1870. Originally designed as four tenements, they now function as two. The buildings rise three storeys and include cellars, featuring an eight-window range with double hung sashes that have single vertical glazing bars set within stucco architraves. The first storey windows are adorned with cornices on console brackets, while the ground storey showcases 19th century shop fronts. No 7, which houses Barclays Bank Ltd, has a 20th century window and two six-panel doors with plain rectangular fanlights. The roofs are slate and hipped. These buildings are part of a group that includes all the listed buildings in Market Hill, Church Street, Station Road, and Well Lane.
