Description
Number 4 Market Hill is a late 18th century or early 19th century timber-framed and plastered house that incorporates a 15th century framed building. It is built above a medieval stone groin vaulted undercroft featuring an octagonal shaft with a moulded cap and base. The building has two storeys and cellars, with a two-window range of double-hung sashes that have glazing bars in flush cased frames. The ground storey includes a 19th century corner shop front and a doorway adorned with pilasters and a cornice. The roof is slate and hipped at the north end. Inside, there are remnants of exposed timber-framing and a notable moulded beam with running-leaf ornamentation. This building is part of a group of listed buildings that includes all the listed buildings on Market Hill, Church Street, Station Road, and Well Lane.
