BARDWELL LOW STREET (WEST SIDE) Brook House

(Formerly listed as Medway)

GV II House. Early C17. Timber-framed, on a brick and flint plinth almost as high as the whole ground storey.

Two storeys: six bays, three-cell plan. Internal chimney-stack, possibly built into earlier smoke-bay. On north a C20 brick gable end with chimney-stack. Black glazed pantiled roof. Three-light and two-light casement windows, those on the ground storey C20, on upper storey C19. All framing exposed inside: heavy main beams, joists set on edge. Long arched braces to trusses, side purlin roof with principal rafters.
