Description
Priory Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century. It has one-and-a-half storeys and is constructed from timber framing with a rendered finish. At the east end, there is a small 19th-century extension featuring a shallow-pitched roof, and the roof is covered with pantiles. A single-storey lean-to on the north side now serves as the entrance. The house has a two-cell internal chimney plan, although it originally had a third unit; the frame was cut back at the east end prior to the addition of the brick extension. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a rebuilt shaft, which is rendered. The windows are primarily 20th-century casements, but there is good quality exposed framing inside, with widely spaced studding and arched braces on the long and side walls, comprising five bays. A timber lintel is present over the fireplace, and there are exposed ceiling beams in the central room. The upper storey retains remnants of several original windows, including a notable five-light diamond-mullioned window on the north wall. The roof structure features side purlins.
