Description
The Old Royal Oak is a former public house dating from the late 17th century. It has one and a half storeys and a three-cell plan. The building is timber-framed, with part of the north side plastered, while the south side and east end are faced in 19th-century brick. The west gable features a rubble flint construction with a chimney stack facing the street. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack. The south side has three 19th-century small-paned casement windows with segmental arched heads. Along the north side, there are two late 19th-century single-storey lean-tos, with a dormer above. The front door, which is a fine 18th-century six-panel design with raised fielded panels, is now located inside a lean-to. The doors on the ground storey still display the former public house numbers 1 to 6.
