Description

Whiting Farm Cottage is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century and some alterations made to the exterior in the 20th century. The building is 1 and a half storeys tall and has a three-cell plan, positioned sideways to the road. It features a timber frame that is partially plastered, with the west end faced in 20th-century brick and the south side faced in 20th-century fletton brick. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a plain shaft, and the cottage has 20th-century casement windows along with one flat-headed dormer. The timber framing is exposed on the interior. To the east of the house, there is the pit of the former whiting works, which has been disused since the 1950s.
