PAKENHAM FEN ROAD Nos. 1 and 2 (Maulkins Cottages)

House, now divided into two cottages. Late C15/early C16, altered. mid C20. 1 1/2 storeys: 3-Cell plan: set sideways-on to road. Timber-framed, plastered along north side, encased in C20 fletton brick on south and west. C20 pantiles; the new roof laid over old thatch. The ends of the original rafters protrude along the north side. Internal chimney-stack: 2 square detached shafts linked by later brickwork. Random C20 fenestration, one large flat-headed dormer on south. Inside, heavy main beam inserted across former open hall, remains on long hall window in north wall.
