Description
This is a watermill dating from 1814, associated with Charles Low, who was the miller in the early 19th century. He is believed to have rebuilt the mill partly on earlier foundations. The mill was restored to full working order in the late 1970s. It stands four storeys tall, with a tarred brick ground storey and timber-framed upper storeys that are rendered at the front and weatherboarded on the sides. The roof is pantiled and features a lucam on the south slope. The ground storey has two small-paned sash windows and two doors, all with segmental arched heads. The upper storeys have three small-paned sash windows. There is an upper loading door that includes a semi-circular fanlight. The internal machinery is complete, featuring a low breast shot waterwheel from around 1900 and three pairs of underdriven millstones. Additionally, on the first floor, there is a Tattersall Midget roller mill.
