Description
Brookvale Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell plan. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with plaintiled roofs that have decorative bargeboards added in the 19th century. There is an axial chimney, with its shaft rebuilt in red brick during the 19th century. The windows include small-pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, while some original 17th-century diamond-mullioned windows are exposed and glazed. A mid 19th-century extension of painted brick was added to the west side, during which the earlier walling was underbuilt in brick. Inside, the unmoulded framing is fully exposed, with floor joists laid flat in the hall, featuring a mix of chamfered and unchamfered joists, likely taken from a 16th-century building. The farmhouse also has open lintelled fireplaces.
