Description

This is a late 18th-century terrace of three cottages located in Bird's Green, Rattlesden. The cottages are timber-framed and rendered with plaster. They have hipped thatched roofs, featuring two axial chimneys. The chimney on the left is constructed of 18th-century red brick, while the chimney on the right is of 19th-century gault brick. The cottages originally featured 3-light 18th-century casement windows; however, those at number 8 have been replaced with 20th-century steel casements. Numbers 9 and 10 have 19th-century boarded entrance doors, and number 9 includes a thatched porch supported by posts. Number 8 has a half-glazed 4-panelled entrance door and a 20th-century gabled porch on posts. The group value of the cottages lies in their cohesive appearance and representation of rural vernacular architecture.
