Description
Willow Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located on Lower Street in Rattlesden. It features a rendered and colorwashed timber frame with a thatched roof and a central brick ridge stack. The cottage has a two-unit plan, likely originally designed with a lobby entry. On the façade, there is a two-light window to the left, a three-light window to the right, and a plank door beyond. Above, an eyebrow dormer contains a three-light leaded casement window. There is a garage extension at the left end and attic windows in the gables.
Inside, the cottage showcases tall-panel framing with braces and heavier wall posts, along with bridging beams and joists. An open fireplace with a bressumer and hood is present, with a small stair located behind the stack that divides the space. The original roof rafters are visible up to the collar level, and there are plank doors throughout. This cottage has seen little alteration and forms a group with the nearby Church of St. Nicholas.
