Description

The building at 23 Castle Street is a house dating to approximately 1700. It was originally timber-framed and has been re-clad in red brick during the early 20th century. The roof is now covered in corrugated tiles.

The house is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The front door, located slightly left of centre, is a 20th-century design, consisting of three vertical panels. There are two 19th-century three-light casement windows with deep moulded hoods, without label stops, either side of the door. Above them are three similar two-light casement windows. A 20th-century single-storey bay window, with glazing bars and a hipped tile roof, is positioned to the left of the elevation; it was formerly part of a neighbouring property. The roof is gabled with an internal gable-end stack to the east. A two-storey rear cross wing extends from the main body of the house.

The interior features some exposed studwork, although it was partly opened out in the late 20th century.
