Description
The Thatched House is a Grade II listed building located on Buckshorn Lane. It consists of two houses that were originally built in the early 17th century and later converted into one house in the 20th century. The exterior features a plastered and colourwashed timber frame with a thatched roof and follows a lobby entrance plan. The building has two storeys and a four-window range, with the entrance front facing south. The entrance is marked by a 20th-century plank door in the center, flanked by two early 20th-century casement windows with two and three lights, both featuring glazing bars. The first floor has four similar casement windows, with the two on the east side dating from the late 19th century. The gabled roof includes a ridge stack, while the north front showcases two late 18th-century sliding casements on the first floor.
Inside, the building has a frame of moderate scantling with jowled principal posts. A wide brick fireplace retains some original 17th-century brickwork. There are winder staircases located at the east and west ends of the house. The first floor features one blocked three-light diamond mullioned window on the north side and a clasped purlin roof.
