Description
This is a late 16th-century house with later alterations, including a lobby-entrance front wing added in the late 17th century. It was used as a public house until the late 20th century. The house is timber-framed with a colourwashed brick skin on the facade, added in the mid-19th century. The front block has a roof of black-glazed pantiles, while the rear wing has a roof of plaintiles.
The main block is two storeys and two windows wide. A late 20th-century door is located to the left of centre, accessed by four steps. There are early 20th-century casement windows on each side of the ground floor, and two on the first floor. The roof is gabled, with a mid-19th century brick ridge stack featuring triple octagonal flues and star tops. A single-storey gabled bay to the east has an early 20th-century casement window to the north and a late 20th-century casement to the return. Various rear extensions are present.
The two-storey rear wing has 2- and 3-light 19th-century casement windows. The ground floor is of brick, while the first floor is timber-framed with a gabled roof.
The interior plan is complex due to subsequent alterations. The timber frame is of medium size and includes a stack tunnelled through to provide a passageway to the rear. The rear wing contains bridging beams on knuckle braces to wall posts, and a late 16th-century clasped purlin roof. The front range frame has arched wall braces and a roof of through purlins.
