Description
Potash Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with probable origins in the 16th century, and altered in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a thatched roof. The building originally had three cells and was once longer, with the left bay and stack likely part of an earlier structure. It is two storeys high, with the entrance located in the left bay of the main block, which has a part fielded six-panel door that is recessed and features an architrave and hood mould. The windows are three-light glazing bar casements, with a long two and three-light window in the entrance bay on the first floor, and hoodboards on the ground floor along with hood moulds on the first floor. The left bay has slightly lower eaves, and there is an axial ridge stack that has been extruded. An external stack with offsets is located at the right end, with exposed plates. At the rear of the left bay, there is a catslide roof over a lean-to outshut made of brick and clay lump, with a boarded door centrally located on the main range. Inside, much of the frame is concealed, but there are run-out chamfered axial and cross axial binding beams. On the first floor, where the main range meets the earlier bay to the left, there are opposed base cruck blades supporting a raised tie beam.
