Description
This building is a former stable range that is now used as a barn, located about 40 meters northeast of Pountney Hall. It dates back to 1743, as indicated by the inscription 'I.C. May 4, 1743' on the king post. The structure is made of red brick and features a steeply pitched pantiled roof. It is a long range with five segmental-headed windows on the front, all of which are blocked except for a cross casement window on the left side. The building has a plinth and moulded kneelers at the gable end parapets, which are finished with tumbled-in brickwork. The left end has double doors with a segmental head. The rear of the building has 20th-century additions that are not of special interest. Inside, there is an unusual king post roof supported by 17 closely spaced trusses, with straight braces connecting the principals at the eaves to raised tie beams, angled struts from the king posts to the principals, and double butt purlins.
