Description
Cowpasture Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, topped by a steeply pitched pantiled roof. The house has a three-cell lobby entry plan and stands two storeys high with an attic.
The entrance is located to the right of the centre and is framed by a two-storey 19th-century gabled porch. The door is a six-fielded panelled architraved design, flanked by small sash windows. On the first floor, there is a single glazing bar architraved sash window, and the bargeboards are pierced. The ground floor has single glazing bar architraved sashes with hoodboards, while the first floor features three-light transomed part-opening metal frame casements.
An axial ridge stack is positioned to the right of centre and has a broached base with four conjoined hexagonal shafts. The left gable end has an added external stack with offsets and two leaded lights in the attic, along with exposed plates and purlins. The right gable end includes two-light casements. At the rear, there is a pantiled lean-to outshut behind the stack, which contains two French windows, a single leaded light on the first floor, a cross casement, and a two-light gabled dormer.
Inside, much of the frame is concealed. The ground floor features stop-chamfered axial binding beams, with stairs located in front of the stack. The first floor has stop-chamfered cross axial binding beams and a butt purlin roof with collars to the principal rafters, along with cranked wind braces. A 20th-century link leads to a former stable or brewhouse building from the 18th century. This building is timber framed, rendered with some red brick, and has a pantiled roof. It contains two boarded doors, one panelled door, a two-light leaded casement, and loft openings. The rear is made of red brick and features an internal end stack, kneelers to the gable, and a parapet.
