Description
Pond Farm House is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with extensions from the early 17th century and alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has thatched roofs. The building is arranged in a large L shape, with a three-cell main range that likely has origins as an open hall, and a two-cell parlour wing added to the rear left. Both sections are two storeys high with attics.
At the front, there is a central lean-to roof covered with pantiles that projects outward, featuring an entrance at the right end. The upper bay to the left has dual 2-light casement windows, while the first floor has a part-opening 3-light casement. A large early axial ridge stack is located to the left of centre on the main range, with the roof hipped to the left towards the slightly taller parlour wing. The outer return displays scattered casements, some with metal frames and others with leaded lights, and has a central ridge stack with a moulded foot.
On the right or service gable end, there are 2-light casements, moulded brackets supporting the plates, and exposed double purlins. The rear or parlour gable end shows exposed plates and single purlins. At the rear, there is a boarded door likely positioned in a cross passage, along with 2 and 3-light casements, and a four-light window that is partly lattice leaded on the first floor of the parlour wing. In the inner angle, there is a 19th-century two-storey projection that includes a half-glazed door, a 3-light leaded casement, a leaded roof, and a pantiled lean-to outshut. The interior has not been inspected.
