Description
Ivy Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century. It has two storeys and a two-cell lobby-entrance plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof featuring an axial chimney, which was rebuilt in 19th century red brick.
The cottage has various windows, including a two-storey late 18th century splayed bay window with a flat roof and small-pane sash windows on the gable facing the road. There is a 20th century window that incorporates a late 18th century fanlight with delicate radiating bars, which was brought in from another location.
On one side wall, there is a 19th century conservatory supported by cast iron columns with traceried brackets. Inside, there is a central chimney with an open fireplace that has a deep cambered lintel. The house also features several blocked or fragmentary diamond mullioned windows, arch wind-braced studwork, and unchamfered floor joists. The coupled-rafter roof over the larger cell indicates that there was once a half-hip.
