Description
Two houses, originally built as one dwelling in the mid-16th century and altered in the early 17th century. They were restored in 1985. The houses have a three-room plan. They are one storey in height, with attics. The timber frame is plastered, with 20th-century herringbone pargeting applied in panels. The roof is thatched, with two 20th-century casement dormers. There’s an axial chimney with a shaft rebuilt in 20th-century red brick, and a 20th-century gable chimney on the right. The windows are mostly 20th-century casements, but one window at the eaves retains a 16th-century diamond-mullioned design. A 20th-century thatched gabled porch shelters the boarded and framed entrance door. The original, heavy timber framing remains visible inside, featuring arch-braced studwork, large, unchamfered floor joists, and a queenpost roof. Several complete diamond-mullioned windows survive. The parlour chamber on the left has moulded mullions. The 17th-century chimney has lintelled open fireplaces. The original service wing was half-hipped and features a blocked mullioned window; it was extended in the early 17th century, also with diamond mullioned windows. The property is included on the heritage list despite 20th-century alterations due to the presence of good 16th-century timber framing.
