Description
This building is a farm store located 10 meters north of Ulveston Hall. It dates from the 16th century and incorporates the end bay of a manorial building, possibly the court hall. At the time of the survey in July 1987, it was derelict. The structure is timber framed, although much of the render is missing, and it features a plaintiled roof. The building has two storeys and various small casement windows.
Inside, the upper floor displays good close studding, while the ground floor has mostly lost this feature. The former gable end to the north retains original brick nogging, with evidence of similar infilling in the side walls. The building has massive wall posts and two windows with diamond mullions. The upper floor includes plain joists, and the roof is supported by a single row of clasped purlins with cranked wind braces. This outbuilding is included for its group value.
