Description
This building is a farm structure, likely used as stables and storage, located 10 meters north-northwest of Low Farmhouse. It dates from the late 16th century, with a one-bay addition from the 18th to 19th century added to the north. The building is timber framed and cement-rendered, with the south gable covered in weatherboarding. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos sheeting. There is one original first-floor diamond-mullioned window at the south end, and evidence of another original window in the adjacent bay can be seen from the inside. The interior of the 16th-century section consists of four bays, which are equally partitioned into two. The two southernmost bays have original upper floors, accessible by an old solid-tread stair from a door in the gable end. The floors in the other two bays are likely later additions, with the main floor beam supported on knees. The studding, mostly original, is visible only at the upper level, except for the side walls of the north half, which show alterations. There is no evidence of cart entry or original windows in the north half. The roof remains intact, featuring a single row of wind-braced clasped purlins.
