Description

Red House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with a service wing at the rear that contains work from the 16th century. The front block is constructed of red brick and features a pantiled roof, with glazed black tiles at the front. It has two storeys and a symmetrical three-bay facade, where the central bay is slightly set forward. The original three-light casement windows have mid-20th century glass that replaced the leaded panes, and they are topped with flat gauged brick arches. The original doorcase includes reeded pilasters and an entablature with a triangular pediment, along with panelled reveals. The entrance features a late 19th century four-panel door, with decorative glazing in the upper panels. There are gable stacks and a late 19th century lean-to conservatory on the left gable end.

At the rear, the building is timber framed and plastered, also with a pantiled roof. It has two storeys and various casement windows, one of which retains old square-leaded glass. Inside, the section adjacent to the front block has a two-bay ceiling with heavy, closely spaced chamfered joists and a bridging beam featuring broach stop-chamfers. Beyond this are two additional bays with plain joists and two cambered tie beams, while the roof is of a later date. The interior has not been fully examined.
