Description

Broomvale House is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 16th century, featuring significant alterations from the early 19th and early 20th centuries. The main entrance front, which faces south, is a two-storey, three-window range built in the 19th century, constructed of painted brick with a plaintiled roof and an external end chimney. The windows have flat arches made of gauged brick, with small-pane sashes on the upper storey and French windows with louvred shutters on the ground storey. The entrance door has six panels, with the upper panels being glazed, and is framed by a reeded architrave and a pentice board supported by slender brackets.

At the rear, a two-storey range from the 16th century serves as the service wing, containing the original hall and service cell. This section is timber framed and plastered, featuring some 18th-century herringbone pargetting in panels. The west elevation has notable 18th-century windows, which are three-light with transoms and iron casements; the first-storey windows include leaded lights, while the ground-floor window has a pair of boarded shutters. The twin service rooms display good exposed framing from the early 16th century or possibly the 15th century, with some parts rebuilt in the mid-16th century, including a roll-moulded bridging joist and chamfered common joists. The hall may have also been rebuilt during this period. Additionally, there is a large two-storey extension added around 1930 at the rear.
