Description
Mount Pleasant Cottages are two former farmhouses, now functioning as separate dwellings, dating from the 16th century and built in more than one phase. They form a single long range and are constructed with a timber frame and roughcast render, topped with a pantiled roof. The buildings are two storeys high. Most of the windows are mid 20th century single-paned casements, while No. 2 on the right features one 19th century small-paned window on the ground floor. There are two mid 20th century doors. The internal stack is centrally located, with an oblong axial shaft; the lower part is original, while the upper portion was rebuilt in the 19th century. Small 19th century stacks are present on the outside of each gable end.
Inside No. 1, which is divided into three bays, there is notable first floor studding, although the wall braces are concealed. Two tie beams, one against the stack and one open, have heavy arched braces. The ground floor layout has been altered, and most of the timbers here are concealed. The interior of No. 2 and the entire roof space have not been examined.
