Description
This building is a farm structure located 60 meters northeast of Manor Farmhouse, dating from around 1600 with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It consists of seven bays and is timber-framed with weatherboarding. The roof, added in the 19th century, is covered with Roman pantiles. The building features a range of about five stables with a hayloft above, accessible via 19th-century boarded stable doors along the south side and two loft doors above.
The interior showcases high-quality arch stud-braced studding and several ovolo-mullioned windows, which are not glazed but have shutter slides above them. It includes heavy main posts and binding beams, as well as good on-edge oak first-floor joists. Some areas still show remnants of wattle and daub and original plaster. There is a fragment of a two-tier butt-purlin roof, but the majority of the roof has been rebuilt, particularly at the east end during the 19th century. In the 18th century, the two left-hand bays were converted, and a two-bay extension was added to the rear, creating a cartlodge of four by two bays, featuring primary-braced oak studding. Above this, there is a granary with some wooden bins.
