Description

The Grange is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. It has a three-cell lobby-entrance plan, consisting of a main range of one storey with attics and a two-storey cross-wing. The house was originally timber-framed, but was later encased in 19th-century brick, which is now painted. Pilasters are at the corners of the cross-wing. The roofs are covered in plain tiles, and feature a substantial 17th-century axial chimney constructed of red brick with a square moulded base, alongside gabled dormers with plain tiling. Windows are small-pane casements set within 19th-century openings, each with a moulded cast iron lintel supported by console brackets. A gabled brick porch with a plain tiled roof, containing a battened and boarded door with a pointed arch, provides entrance. Some original timber framing is visible internally, including a large, blocked diamond-mullioned window in the rear wall. The roof structure incorporates clasped purlins.
