Description
Timberleys is a former farmhouse built in two stages, dating from the 15th century and around 1600. It has two storeys, with the later block on the left also featuring attics. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with plaintiled roofs and a large axial 17th-century chimney made of red brick. The windows are 20th-century casements with leaded lights, and there is a 20th-century lean-to entrance porch with a panelled door.
The right-hand block includes a 15th-century open hall that is one and a half bays long, showing moderate smoke-blackening. Inside, there is a complete arch-braced open truss and a coupled-rafter roof. Evidence remains of a rear hall window that had square mullions. A service cell has been removed from the right-hand end; notably, this rural open hall contained a cross-passage, with the spere beam still visible, underbuilt in the gable wall.
In the late 16th century, a good moulded beam and joist ceiling were added to the hall. Around 1600, a parlour cell was constructed or rebuilt to the left, featuring high-quality framing, a clasped-purlin roof, and a fireplace with a moulded square frame and an elliptical arched head, all made of brick. The hall fireplace is wider and has a cambered lintel.
