Description
Ashburnham Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 16th century, featuring alterations from the mid 17th century and mid 19th century. The building has two storeys and a central 16th-century range flanked by two crosswings. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with plaintiled roofs and axial chimneys made of red brick. The windows are mainly 19th-century small-pane sashes, and the entrance door is a 19th-century six-panel design, with the upper pair of panels glazed. The right side of the main range includes the hall of the original 16th-century house, which has heavy unchamfered joists and other framing. The service cell to the right was almost entirely rebuilt in the form of a cross-wing during the mid to late 17th century. In the mid 19th century, the walls of the main range, which may have been lengthened previously, were raised, and a new roof was constructed. At that time, a parlour cross-wing was also added to the left.
