Description

The Fox Inn is a public house dating from the 18th century, with early 19th-century alterations and some changes made around 1970. The building features a two-storey main range with three bays, flanked by small original single-storey wings on either side. It is constructed of red brick with random burnt headers and has a band at the first floor. The roofs are hipped and covered with plain tiles, and there are axial 18th-century chimneys made of red brick. The early 19th-century windows have small panes and are set in earlier openings; the ground floor windows have segmental arched heads of brick with flush frames, while the upper windows have flat heads and cased frames. There are two entrance doorways from the 18th or 19th century, each with a 20th-century half-glazed panelled door. Although the main block's facade is brick, the rest of the building is made of plastered studwork, with primary-braced studwork exposed in the bars, indicating that the structure is likely 18th-century throughout. There are extensive single-storey additions made around 1970 on both sides of the building.
