Description
Mill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, featuring a one-cell front range, with a rear section that was rebuilt around 1700. There is a mid-20th century stair wing added to the south. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof. It has two storeys, with the taller front range also having an attic. The windows are mostly 20th century casements, and there is a mid-20th century door in the south addition.
An internal stack, which heats both sections, is situated within the early 17th century range, with the exterior part of the shaft rebuilt in the mid-20th century and featuring two diamond flues. The interior has been modernized, concealing nearly all of the original frame. The main ground floor room includes an ovolo-moulded bridging beam and plain joists that are almost square in section. There is a restored brick fireplace with a four-centred arch in the room above. The roof over this section has a single row of clasped purlins and shows signs of wind bracing that has since been removed. It is likely that this was a parlour addition to a medieval range at the rear, which was later rebuilt. The ground floor room in the rear section features re-used heavy plain joists and part of a gable end wall with heavy studding, also re-used.
