Description
Locks Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which was renovated and enlarged in the mid-20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a two-cell layout; there may have been a third cell to the south at one time. The windows are standard casement style, and the gabled porch and door are from the mid-20th century. Above the porch, there is one original mullioned window. A large gabled addition extends above the roof.
Inside, there is an internal stack with an original base featuring inset panels at the front and rear, each adorned with a sawtooth brick course, and mid-20th century shafts above in a sawtooth design. Much of the studding is visible, and the basic layout of the house remains intact. There is evidence of original windows with chamfered mullions and diamond glazing bars, with two still complete. Both ground floor rooms feature axial bridging beams with chamfered joists set flat. The original newel stairs consist of two flights, and there are some internal doors from the 16th to 17th centuries. The roof timbers are not visible.
