Description
16 and 18 Tavern Street are two houses that have been converted into a restaurant. They date from the mid-18th century and are constructed with a timber frame, which is plastered and colourwashed. The roof is made of plain tiles and the building has two storeys.
The left-hand bay, which was added in the late 18th century, has a door on the left side of the elevation that was blocked in 1991. This bay is lit by one late 19th-century 3/3 sash window on each floor. The main part of the building to the right features three irregular bays. It has a reeded doorcase with an 8/8 sash window on either side. There are also late 20th-century double doors at the extreme right of the elevation.
On the first floor, there are two 4/8 sash windows and one 3/6 sash window. The building has a gabled roof with an outshut at the rear and stacks on the rear roof slope. Inside, the structure retains a plain timber frame with plain bridging beams and a roof supported by staggered butt purlins.
