Description
No. 5 Tavern Street is a house that has been converted into a dental surgery. It dates back to the early 17th century and features a timber frame with roughcast on the ground floor and plaster on the first floor. The building has a slate roof and stands two storeys tall, with a two-window range on the first floor. The central entrance has a six-panelled door, with the upper two panels being glazed. To the left, there is a 2/2 sash window, and to the right, there is an early 20th-century single-storey bay with cross casements. A moulded timber string course runs between the floors, and there are two 2/2 sash windows on the first floor. The eaves cornice features repeating pendant arches, and the gabled roof has a stack on the front slope to the west.
Inside, the building has been somewhat altered with inserted partitions. In the rear ground-floor room, there is a wave-moulded bridging beam over a blocked fireplace, while the front rooms have chamfered bridging beams.
