Description

THWAITE NORWICH ROAD TM 16 NW 3/90 The Old Post Office (formerly listed as 29.7.55 Post Office)

-- II House. C17. Timber framed and rendered, thatched roof. 1½ storeys. Various windows. To left, a sash window with glazing bars; to centre, a 3-light casement. Former shop to right has a mid C20 replacement small-paned canted bay window; adjacent doorway has boarded half-door, the cover battens forming trefoil-headed panels; projecting fascia and cornice over both. Doorway immediately to left of former shop has early C19 doorcase: moulded architrave with small corner rosettes; cornice with small balls attached to soffit; door has 6 flush panels with reeded surrounds. Late C18 doorway to extreme left has eared architrave and dentilled cornice on solid brackets; the door has 6 sunk panels. 3 dormers with old 3-light casement windows. Internal stack with C19 shaft. Continuous brick lean-to at rear with glazed black pantiled roof. Interior not examined.
