Description

The Buck's Head Inn is a public house dating from the 16th century, built in two phases, with an 18th to 19th century addition on the left that creates a single long structure. The building features a timber frame with plaster, including some old panelled plasterwork and chevron-pargetted infill. The left gable end is made of colourwashed brick, and the roof is covered with plaintiles. The inn is 1½ storeys high and has four windows: 18th to 19th century casements on the upper floor and small-paned ground floor casements from around 1900. There is one gabled dormer on the left and two mid-20th century gabled porches with plank doors. The internal stack has been rebuilt in the 20th century and features a cross-axial shaft, with a gable stack on the left.

Inside, the earliest phase, located on the right, consists of three and a half bays and showcases exposed first-floor studding with heavy reverse-curved braces. The addition on the left, possibly from the late 16th century, is divided into two unequal bays. Both phases have coupled-rafter roofs, although the collars are missing in the later section. Most of the ground floor timbers are concealed, but there is evidence of a service partition at the earlier end. The fireplace at the left gable end features a reused 16th-century moulded lintel. The roof over the later addition on the left was destroyed by fire in the 1980s.
