Description
Thwaite Lodge Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. The building dates from the 17th century on the left side, with possibly earlier work on the right. It features a timber frame that is rendered to imitate ashlar and has a thatched roof. The structure is arranged in a three-cell form and has one and a half storeys. There is a three-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars, along with three flat-headed dormers that have similar two-light windows. The farmhouse has two doorways with 20th-century doors. The stack has an axial shaft, with the center portion set forward at the front, and there is a later external stack on the right gable end. Additionally, there are 20th-century one-storey additions to the right and rear of the building.
Inside, the two bays to the left of the stack have plain full-height studding. The ground floor ceiling features chamfered joists set flat, with ogee and run-out stops. The roof timbers are concealed. The dwelling to the right of the stack has not been examined, but two sooted rafters at the rear of the stack, if in situ, suggest that this portion may date from the 15th or early 16th century.
