Description
This barn, located 20 meters north-north-east of Hill Farmhouse, dates back to the 17th century and was built in two phases. It features a timber frame, with parts weatherboarded and daubed, all covered in tar. The roof is clad in corrugated iron, and there is a pantiled weatherboarded lean-to along the east side.
Inside, the barn has a five-bay frame. The original structure consists of the three wider bays to the east, which includes a central cart entrance on the north side. Both phases of the barn have largely intact studding; the earlier section has a mid rail, while the later section features heavy primary braces. The gable ends are adorned with arched corner braces positioned against the outside of the studs. Most of the tie beam braces have been replaced with knee braces. The roof over the earlier part has two rows of diminished butt purlins, while the later section has clasped and stepped butt purlins. The barn also contains a brick threshing floor.
