Description

Numbers 9 to 13 and 13A St Peter's Street is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house, designed similarly to Nos 3 and 5. It features three jettied gables supported by paired brackets. The building was altered in the 19th century, with the gables adorned with 19th-century cut and shaped ornamental bargeboards and faux exposed timber-framing.

There is a three-window range, with early 19th-century bay windows on the first storey, and double-hung sash windows that have vertical glazing bars. The attics are illuminated by windows in the gables. The ground storey includes 19th-century shop windows and a carriageway leading to a small courtyard at the rear. A continuous fascia with an unusual modillion cornice connects the ground storey.

At the rear, two wings extend to the east. The north side features a two-storey wing with a series of casement windows that have lattice leaded lights, along with a single-storey extension at the eastern end. The south side has a jettied upper storey with exposed joists and a range of casement windows similar to those on the north side. The ground storey displays brick nogging and a boarded door with a Tudor arched head. Above the carriage entrance is an oriel bay window with leaded lattice lights and a moulded sill. The rear wings have been restored, and the roofs are tiled.

Numbers 5 to 13 (odd), 13A, 15 to 33 (odd), 33A, and 35 to 39 (odd) form a cohesive group.
