Description

The Church of St Mary-at-the-Quay is a 15th century church that began construction after 1448, when funds were bequeathed for its building. It is currently used as a headquarters for the Boys' Brigade. The church is built of flint with stone dressings, featuring a Perpendicular style exterior. It has a tall nave flanked by north and south aisles, which contain Perpendicular windows. A heavy west tower, which has diagonal buttresses and decorative flushwork ornamentation on the upper part, was rebuilt in the 20th century. Inside, the nave boasts a fine double hammer beam roof, with wall posts that bear carved figures.
