Description
No. 35 St Margaret's Street is a 16th to 17th century timber-framed and plastered building located at the corner of St Margaret's Street and Great Coleman Street. It features three gables that are angled toward the corner and stands two storeys tall with attics. The upper storey juts out, supported by exposed joists, and showcases exposed timber-framing. Each of the three gables is adorned with shaped and carved bargeboards. The windows throughout the building are mullioned casements fitted with lattice leaded lights. The side gables include a central three-light window flanked by smaller two-light windows, while the central gable boasts a five-light oriel bay window. The attics are illuminated by small two-light windows set into the gable. The ground storey has been largely reconstructed in a 16th century shop style, with much of the detailing renewed. The roofs are tiled. Although the building has undergone significant restoration, some original features have been preserved, and the rest have been carefully replicated. Nos. 35 to 39 (odd) form a group.
