Description
Church Cottage is a house that was formerly divided into two cottages but has now been restored. It dates from the 16th century and features a timber frame with colourwashed render and a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic.
On the entrance front, there are two 20th-century boarded doors located to the right of centre and at the far left. Next to each door is a 3-light 20th-century casement window. The first floor has two eyebrow dormers, each containing a 2-light casement window. At the ridge, towards the right of centre, is a rebuilt stack made of 20th-century brick. The right-hand end has a hipped roof with a ground floor 3-light metal-framed window and a similar window on the first floor. Arched braces connect to the projecting wall plates on either side, supporting the jettied half-hip.
On the left-hand gable end, there is a 4-light 20th-century metal-framed window on the ground floor and a 3-light similar window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension with a half-hipped roof.
Inside, the ground floor features massive chamfered ceiling beams and chamfered joists. The walls have jowled posts and close-studded walling with arched braces, along with one additional similar room on the ground floor.
