Description
The Old House is a house that was formerly divided into two cottages, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It has two storeys and features a timber-framed structure that is rendered, with black glazed pantiles on the front slope of the roof and clay pantiles on the rear. The house has two red brick gable ends; the left gable has an external chimney-stack, while the right gable has an integral stack, both with plain red brick shafts.
On the upper floor, there are two old 3-light casement windows and one 2-light casement window, each with a single horizontal bar to the lights. The ground floor has two similar but larger windows with two bars to the lights. The central entrance doorway features a steeply-arched timber surround and a plank door designed in a 20th-century Gothic style.
At the rear, there is a single-storey 20th-century lean-to, and on the upper floor, there is a 5-light diamond-mullioned window. The brick gable and stack on the right appear to be original, while the left gable and stack may be a later addition. If this is the case, the house has a basic two-cell end-chimney plan. Inside, the ceilings are adorned with plain beam and joist construction.
