Description
The Willows is a farmhouse with a core dating from the late 16th century to the early 17th century, featuring early and later 19th-century additions and alterations. The building is L-shaped, with two storeys and attics. The main range is timber-framed and covered in mathematical tiles, while the cross-wing, built around 1840, is faced in matching white brick. The original black glazed pantiles have been replaced with concrete pantiles.
The gables are adorned with pierced and fluted barge-boards and spike finials. Inside, there is a white brick internal chimney stack with four square pots, and a rear stack on the cross-wing. The front of the house features three-light casement windows with transoms and square Tudor hood moulds. In the attic of the cross-wing, there is a blank recessed panel with a hood-mould.
There are two entrance doors to the main range: one, next to the stack, has a 20th-century door in a pseudo-Georgian style, while the other has six sunk panels with applied mouldings and is recessed under a rustic timber porch. The gable wall on the southwest is roughcast, and there is a 1½ storey mid-19th-century lean-to at the rear, faced in red brick. The earlier features of the building are said to be concealed inside.
