Description

The Grange is a late 18th and early 19th century house, originally marked on Ordnance Survey maps as 'The Vicarage'. It is colour-washed over red brick, with a slate roof and wide, plain eaves. The front has four window bays, with small-paned sash windows in flush frames, those on the upper floor having gauged heads. The ground floor has two similar, wider windows, and two later, narrower sashes on the east side, replacing an earlier wide shop window from the early 19th century. The central entrance has a six-panel door with applied mouldings, an open triangular pediment with dentil ornament, panelled pilasters, linings, and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. A six-panel door, formerly giving access to a shop, is in the gable facing the road. The rear wall features three red brick chimney stacks, and two later 19th-century wings extend to the south. The interior is plain. The building is situated sideways-on at the end of the Green.
