Description

The Grange is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century, with early 19th century extensions. It has two storeys. The older part of the house, located on the left, is timber-framed and covered in very late 19th century or early 20th century white brick. The right side of the building is constructed from early 19th century white brick, with some render over timber at the rear. The roof is covered with black glazed pantiles. An internal chimney stack, located between the two sections of the house, features a plain square white brick shaft.

The early 19th century section includes various types of windows: old three-light casements, one large-paned sash window on the upper floor, and a tripartite sash window on the ground floor. The house is oriented sideways, with the gable end facing the road, which has been elaborately designed. It features full-height pilasters on either side, pierced and carved bargeboards, and a later-added single-storey canted bay with a slate roof and three late 19th century sash windows that do not have glazing bars.

The entrance door is a six-panelled design situated under a Roman Doric portico, which includes modillions and roundels above the columns. The left-hand section of the house has various casement windows, primarily three-light, and an entrance door with four flush panels. Inside this section, the layout consists of five bays, with only the main beams and posts visible. The beams are stop-chamfered with pyramid stops, while the posts have long, narrow jowls. One partition wall has been removed, and the chimney stack may have been added later. The roof features two rows of stepped butt purlins.
