Description
This building is a barn and stable, constructed in 1818, located at right angles to The Grange in South Elmham, St. Peter. It features a long range, with one end divided off for stabling. The structure is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond and has a hipped thatched roof. There are diamond-shaped ventilation panels in the long walls and a slated lean-to along the rear wall. Inside, the barn has straight tie-beams and a well-crafted roof with short bays, including two rows of slightly stepped butt purlins, deep narrow principals, straight collars, and a ridge piece. This barn is notably large for the area.
